Find Out How To Snowboard

There are three snowboarding styles to choose from - alpine, freestyle and freeride. In freeride, you ride down the face of a mountain, whilst taking in its natural bumps and curves. Freestyle centers on tricks, with spins and jumps being good examples. Snowboarding alpine style is similar to skiing, in that it emphasizes fast speed and hard turns. If you are not sure which style to choose, starting withe freeride is advisable, as it is the easiest style from which to learn the basics of snowboarding.

There are two different stances snowboarding stances that can chosen from. The most popular is the regular stance, in which the left foot goes in front of the right. This contrasts to the goofy stance, whereby your right foot goes in front of your left foot.

In contrast to skiers, who must shift their weight from left to right to left, snowboarders must shift their weight between their heel and their toe. By shifting your weight forward, you will go downhill and pick up more speed. When you shift your weight backward, the board slows down.

There is a different type of snowboard for each of the styles: alpine, freestyle and freeride boards. Each is manufactured uniquely in relation to size, shape and materials. The type of board you ride should correspond to your preferred style of snowboarding, your height, your shoe size (your heels and toes should not end up in the snow when you turn) and your weight.

Snowboard boots and bindings are essential to attach yourself securely and comfortably to your snowboard. The higher the quality of the ones you get, the more control you will have whilst snowboarding.

As for clothing, the three layer approach generally seen as the best: the base or inner layer, the middle or second layer, and the outer layer. Warmth, weight and moisture management being considered for each of those layers.

Your head and ears can be protected from extremely low temperatures by wearing both a snowboard helmet and a beanie. Choose gloves that are waterproof, durable, and have been insulated using either fleece or a synthetic-based material.
