It's quite common for the new owner of a Harley Davidson motorcycle to want to modify the motorcycle right out of the gate. The most common modification is to replace the stock Harley exhaust with something like an aftermarket exhaust system from Bub or Samson or something similar. Most would recommend that you install an aftermarket air box at the same time.
This modification accomplishes a couple of things including improving the power and performance and definitely gives that delicious Harley rumble. A stock Harley Davidson motorcycle is not exactly a powerhouse and nor will it be with a stage 1 upgrade, but it will ride much better. You won't have to downshift as much and riding two up will be much more enjoyable.
This might be a modification that you have been thinking about making to your Harley Davidson and if so, you are likely faced with some confusion around which pipes would be perfect for your bike. They all make it sound like this pipe or that pipe are the next big thing. We've got some advice for you and some of our favorite brands below. Check em out.
Vance and Hines Harley Exhaust - Vance and Hines is a company that has its roots in the performance world but they have become one of the premier Harley exhaust manufacturers on the planet. Vance and Hines Big Shots are one of the most widely used pipes ever and for one reason, they're awesome!
Bub Harley Exhaust - Bub Harley exhaust has been making a name for itself now for years and many Harley enthusiasts consider this brand to be the absolute best you can buy. I've owned many Bub Harley exhaust systems over the years and I agree, they are very, very good.
Samson Harley Pipes - Samson pipes are perfect for the aggressive Harley Davidson owner. Loud and aggressive with a big dog exhaust note combined with superb styling and show quality chrome, Samson exhaust pipes are also a great choice in aftermarket Harley Davidson exhaust.
Rinehart HD Exhaust - Rinehart owners are some of the most loyal and rabid fans around in the Harley exhaust world. A unique exhaust note, excellent power output and show quality chrome make Rinehart Harley pipes a great choice for a first time Harley exhaust buyer.
Now these aren't the only pipes available for your Harley but they are definitely companies that I would feel great about recommending to a first time Harley exhaust pipe buyer. The next step before you buy would be to check out a quality review site to see what owners of each have to say about their pipes.
A few of the questions you should be looking to answer include how the pipes sound? How they fit the motorcycle, what they look like after they turn hot, does the bike run nice with them etc. All of these should factor into making your decision.
