The Modern Taxidermy, To Mount a Fish

By Bud Louis

Taxidermy is the art of preserving dead animals in an aesthetic manner. The word itself is a Greek derivative meaning the arrangement of skin. Taxidermy can only be done on vertebrate animals which include fish, birds, reptiles, amphibians and mammals. This preservation can be done as a hobby or as taxidermy for sale.

The skinning of the animal is the first step. Contrary to common belief taxidermy is not gory and does not involve the cutting up of the taxidermy animals. The skin is given a chemical treatment to preserve it and is then mounted on a mannequin made of wire, wood, foam and wool. The eyes are made of clay or bought from suppliers who make special supplies for taxidermists who make animal mounts or fish mounts.

One of the more important qualities of a good taxidermist is the careful precision that it takes to accurately measure an animal. There are also many major differences between yesterdays taxidermy and the modern technology of todays taxidermy animals. Some interesting taxidermy include lifelike fish mounts. Other great taxidermist have many exotic creatures in there collections such as: artic foxes, bears, cats, deer, coyote, turkey, and even jungle creatures. This precision and improvement in technology allows for great works of art that end up as taxidermy for sale.

Modern taxidermists use technology to their advantage by constructing their taxidermy animals from new materials such as silicones and fibre glass. This allows for more lifelike animals that appear to still be alive. Taxidermy for sale is perfect for the enthusist who would like to keep a trophy of their hunting and fishing expedition as a wall mount or on a stand.

Trust is the most important quality in a good taxidermist due to the poor quality of work that some taxidermists employ. Also if you have an animal that you want mounted you must put it in good hands because you only get one chance to mount an animal.
