Hunting turkeys is done during spring and fall seasons. Before you go out to bag one, you must first have the appropriate permits. There are two kinds of permits depending on the season. The spring permit lets you hunt within a specified spot within one of the 5-day periods of turkey hunting. For a fall permit, you are allowed to hunt on any day of the season within a particular area that is stated on the permit. Furthermore, after you've managed to get a permit, there are more preparations to make the most of your outing experience.

One of the things you must have before hunting turkey is patience. Spring turkey requires the least patience since you only need to make female turkey sounds so as to attract the male towards you. However, turkeys don't engage in sexual activity during the fall, this is why you should be patient enough for a turkey to come out. Upon hunting turkey during the spring season, you should be aware of the few devices which are utilized to create turkey sounds. Basically, there are two kinds, the friction call, which is created by brushing two surfaces together and the mouth call which is produced when air is exhaled or inhaled.

Whatever call you choose to utilize, you must practice and master the call perfectly. Listening to actual turkeys are the best teachers for you to master these calls. You can also get help from turkey hunters who have knowledge of the different turkey calls. Turkeys can produce up to more than 20 unique calls which include the cluck, the yelp, the purr, and one that is the most familiar to turkey hunters, the gobble. A significant thing to remember in almost any type of hunting is that you have to practice safety. Even though turkey hunting may look easy and harmless, it can pose dangers when not performed with caution. For example, only make the gobble call if you are trying to find a tom. Never utilize it for luring in one. A nearby hunter may mistake you for a turkey and so you risk being shot at.

You can do other interventions to ensure the safety of your hunting venture. Some of which are; don't stalk turkeys and/or get within 100 yards of a gobbler and wear a camouflage that is distinct from a turkey to avoid getting shot by mistake. And most important of all, remember these three simple policies:

1. Handle any gun as if it was ready to shoot.

2. Always point the muzzle in a safe direction, away from others.

3. Make certain that your target is a turkey before you shoot.

If you employ these guidelines in hunting, you can be sure of total fun and excitement and an accident-free expedition. It is important that you realize that the key element to any kind of hunting is the safety of the people involved.
