Holidays in Habana have all the romance you would expect in such a legendary hotbed of Latin culture. Old Havana is much as it was when Ernest Hemingway sipped his Mojitos in La Bodeguita: old colonial buildings, cruising Cadillacs and cigar chomping old men sitting in cafes.
What to see
Plaza de la Catedral is one of the most authentic and well preserved squares in Havana, with the cathedral and surrounding buildings almost all restored to their original splendor. The Catedral de San Cristobal de la Habana is an 18th century building set in the north side of the square.
While in Havana, be sure to visit the Bodeguita del Medio, a tiny restaurant on a side street near the Cathedral. It is famous not only for its menu of out-of-this-world traditional Cuban dishes but also for its delectable Mojitos and its unique decor. Ever since its opening in 1942, its clientele has included countless world celebrities in the arts and VIPs in the spheres of science and politics.
Revolution Square: Prior to the famous Cuban Revolution, this square situated in the Vedado area of Havana was known simply as the Civic Square. It became historically famous however with the times of the Cuban Revolution, as it was central stage of where many concentrations, parades and combative revolutionary acts where held.
Partagas Cigar Factory: Located on the Industria street No. 520, in Old Havana, always had that beautiful colonial building as venue. It is the oldest cigar factory of Cuba and there, emerged the figure of the tobacco reader, profession that still exits aimed at reading aloud to workers.
Grand Theatre: One may not expect to find one of the world's largest opera houses in the middle of the Caribbean, but this is in fact, the case. The Gran Teatro de La Habana is part of a larger complex, the Palacio del Centro Gallego and is located in the central part of Havana.
