Thoughts For Those Traveling In Europe

By Eric Simmons

Finally all of your hard work has paid off. Three weeks of vacation time are owed to you, and you want your family to join you on a blockbuster European holiday. Moreover, you can now afford an extensive trip throughout Europe, a continent that you have never visited but have always aspired to see. But there is one small problem. You will need to choose from many exhilarating places to visit. With this as a backdrop, let's explore some ideas for when you are traveling in Europe.

Pre-trip preparation is invaluable. There are few things worse than not having the details attended to before you board the plane. First do not over pack. You do not want the weight and aggravation of carrying around too much luggage hanging around your neck like an albatross. You can get your clothes cleaned, or buy new clothes, in the country that you are visiting.

Getting familiar with the native language will prove helpful. So will an understanding of the local customs. It will make it easier to get around and make the locals friendlier to you. It is a good idea to exchange some money for the destination country's currency before you leave. You will be pleased to know that when you land you can head directly to the hotel and not have to track down a bank or exchange office.

There are two other things to keep in mind. First, be sure that all of your travel documentation is in order. Many countries require a visa, in addition to a passport, for entry. Secondly, a plug is not always a plug. Voltages vary from country to country. So you may wish to purchase a universal adapter for your electrical devices that is equipped to handle different voltages.

Now on to something more pleasant: destination ideas. Rome is a place that pleases just about everybody. Be sure you know how to ask for restaurants because there are so many good ones! And of course you will likely want to check out some of the more famous attractions like the Catacombs, the Coliseum and St. Peters Square.

Munich, Germany is home to the annual festival of Oktoberfest. It actually begins in late September and lasts sixteen to eighteen days. It is an event full of exciting activities, great beer, and delicious Southern German food. It is the quintessential symbol of Bavarian culture.

Another popular destination is Paris, the City of Lights. There are all sorts of things to do there. You cannot help but notice the Eiffel Tower decorating the skyline of the city. Or maybe you want to stop by the Louvre, the largest and most famous museum on Earth. Of course, one cannot forget to mention the fabulous restaurants and cafes.

No matter which countries and cities you decide to visit, you will not be disappointed. Europe is home to some of the world's most jaw-dropping scenery, finest food, and stunning cultural institutions.
