The Four Most Common Assumptions Made About Your Car And Your Lifestyle

By Byron Jonas

An automobile may be a means to get from point a to point b to a very few, many individuals choose their vehicle also based on the image they would like to project to others. When selecting a car the assumptions others might make about your car and your lifestyle based on that purchase may not be the main focus, but image usually plays a part in car choice. Here are some of the most frequent connections people make between the vehicle one drives and their lifestyle.

The eco-warrior is a relatively recent term for an environmentally aware individual. Owners of hybrid cars or purely electric vehicles are often considered environmentalist. This image is normally reserved for upwardly mobile young professionals but can be extended to almost any age group.

The Minivan of today has replaced the family station wagon of yesteryear. Individuals driving mini-vans are often assumed to be transporting one child or another to a soccer game, football practice, and ballet lesson or band practice. The mini-van is considered a solid means of family transportation with enough room to take camping or on vacation and often the property of the middle and upper middle-class family.

Naturally the sports car owner has an image all their own and normally that is of the adventurous and possibly thrill seeking personality. This individual may also be viewed as comfortably well off or affluent. A sports vehicle will usually come with a higher price tag which may make people assume that it is the province only of the well to do professional.

Luxury vehicles stand out from the crowd but are rarely overstated. The owner of a pure luxury car generally presents the image of someone who considers getting to a destination in comfort just as important as getting to the destination. Owners of the luxury vehicle are generally perceived to be of above average income and taste.

While these four vehicle types are by no means the only ones to carry an image associated with them, they are some of the most common. Individuals who own a pickup truck, even in the city might be considered down to earth outdoors types. A motorcycle owner might be considered a risk taker and in good physical shape as well.

Very frequently, the associations made between your car and your lifestyle is the result of a deliberate choice. Image is important in business and for social standing. However, the wrong choice in transportation such as the businessperson driving his beat up college jalopy to work can result in the wrong impression.
