Road bikes just keeping getting better, and the 2012 range looks like it won't be an exception. Competitive events such as the Tour du France have already showcased the potential for some of these designs. Companies everywhere are struggling to shave off those extra bits of weight, while keeping the frame and wheel base as stable as possible. That and look cool of course. If you're saving a little cash for the chance of enjoying a brand new bike in 2012, these are some of the top models to watch out for.
It makes sense to start with the dream machine. The Specialised Mclaren Venge is quite possibly the best road racing bike every built. The standard Mclaren Venge is already known for being an incredible beast of a bike, but this thing goes even further towards perfection. The manufacturers have cut down one hundred grams of weight and worked on a perfect head tube spacer for the best possible streamlined riding. The result is a ridiculously fast frame, on some very nifty Zipp 404 Firecrest wheels. All this for only...12,000. But then it is as good as it gets.
The Roubaix model looked odd when it first came out, but it's quickly risen to one of the most familiar frames out there, assisted by the fact that it's won strings of championships. The modifications of 2012 include better features for the cheaper models such as the Tiagra, but it's the Roubaix SL Expert that people are really looking forward too. It has a great flexible frame and DT Swiss Wheels, all for 3000.
Langsters are known for being much cheaper models to get riders started, but they'll see a facelift in 2012 with a couple of new releases. The streamlined nature of the new frame shows a more aggressive slant, and the space grade plastic frame of the Langster Pro Frameset means it's super light-weight too. Alternatively you can pick up a bargain with a 500 Specialised Langster with new frame characteristics.
Finally there's a great everyday road bike to be found in the latest incarnation of the Tricross. This little monster might not be truly a crossover, but it is hardier than the average road bike, and the new mudguard, brake discs and internal cabling of the Specialised 2012 model set it apart from competitors. It's definitely one to watch
