Gearing Kids for Motocross

By Nia Lawrence

What do famous motocross racers James Bubba, Carey Hart, Travis Pastrana, and Nate Adams have in common? They all started out very early in motocross, that's what. James Bubba was only four years old when he entered his first race and was already a sponsored rider by the age of seven. Carey Hart also ventured into motocross racing at the age of four and turned pro by the time he was seventeen. Travis Pastrana, also starting out at the age of four, was, by fourteen years old, the youngest World Freestyle Motocross Champion, while Nate Adams started riding when he was eight years old, winning his first freestyle championship by the age of eighteen.

To be young, wild and free, to feel invincible, like nothing can destroy you or bring you down. This is the kind of youthful determination and spirit that LKI, one of Australia's fastest growing motocross apparel companies, hopes to catch and embody with their line of electro coloured tees, walk shorts, belt buckles, caps, and stickers, the kind of attitude that enabled James, Carey, Travis and Nate to pursue their passion and win their races, to carve a niche for themselves in motocross history.

Motocross is one extreme sport that is popularly known for its death-defying stunts, such as the "Impossible Jump," which was performed by no less than the "most maniacal man on a motorbike," The Godfather of Motocross, no less than Mike Metzger who since the time he first entered the realm of motocross racing has never ceased to amaze with his one-of-a-kind, throw-caution-to-the-winds freestyle tricks. It is one sport that isn't easily learned or easily perfected. Motocross is a sport that not only involves having peak physical strength and stamina, it also involves emotional endurance and, well, iron-cast limbs.

So what is it about motocross that kids like besides the possibility of overcoming almost impossible odds? Being able to use and wear cool gear like the ones made by LKI, that's for sure. Motocross is one of those sports that guarantee high visibility and it is not only having mad skills that count or being able to do backflips without getting thrown off your bike that matters, but wearing apparel that expresses your personal style and one that screams "follow your passion" in capital letters. Gear and apparel worn by individuals who set records and trends that are as enthralling as they are unequalled.

Motocross may be dangerous, it may be embarrassing to experience those wipeouts and painful to hear those bones break, but it undoubtedly is the ultimate in feeding your need for speed. Nothing embodies steel determination more than magnificent and magical maneuvers while suspended in the air, tricks that defy the imagination and need no explanation. So if you want to go ahead and try your luck, know that motocross is not easily learned and perfected. But once you get the hang of it, taking on challenges becomes second nature, winning an instinct. Honing your techniques to razor-sharp precision is easy, especially with LKI behind you. Just don't forget to put on your safety gear.
