Tips on River Fishing

By Nia Lawrence

River or stream fishing is a skill that takes a lot of practice. It will require a set of skills that are different from deep sea fishing. Unlike with having Raymarine Australia tools in deep sea fishing, fishing in a stream or river relies on your sight. Moreover, your fishing tackle and the bait you will choose will be noticeably different. While they are practically the same in terms of concept, the skills and knowledge you will need for fishing in streams will be inherently different from fishing in the ocean. The following are some things that you can consider when you are learning the sport of stream or river fishing.

Visibility is very different in rivers and streams. Fish can easily be seen in streaming or shallow rivers. While this may be an advantage since you will not need to rely on Raymarine Australia tools, it works both ways; the fish will be able to see you and escape if they spot you. By entering an area, you can easily spook fish. If you want to be able to fish effectively in an area, you need to enter a fishing spot downstream where the fish will not notice you.

Unlike with fishing with Raymarine Australia tools at sea, you will be able to see fish easier in moving streams. Nonetheless, you should always be aware that if you can see the fish at the bottom of the creek, they can also see you. By staying on the bank, you will scare away the fish. To enter in your fishing spot, make sure that you enter the water at an earlier spot downstream. By doing this, the fish will not be able to notice you as you enter the area.

River fish often have great peripheral vision. They can easily be spooked by movement. The movement of your arm or a flash of light from your rod can warn them that a predator is around. To avoid spooking the fish, make sure that you are careful with your movement. Make sure that you watch where your shadow is cast. If you are wading in the water, crouch behind things like a boulder to keep your shadow or movement from being seen by the fish near you.

Do not stick to one area when you are fishing in streams. Always remember that river fishing is a matter of percentages; the more places you cast your line, the greater your chances of catching a fish.
