Information About The History Of Skateboards

Although, the history of skateboards is not exactly known, this sport is ranked among one of the most popular with a large percentage of the population enjoying the same. These are most commonly used to surf on the land. Some people consider its origination on the beaches of California while another section considers another location to be its origination destination.

Roller skates were fitted on wooden planks that were 2 or 3 inches thick and were first used by children during the decade of 1930s. The modern designs were first available in 1958. Today, most people consider longboards as symbols for youthful energy and vigor.

The original skateboards were inspirations from the water surfboards and were very similar. However, the designs were modernized and modified as the years progressed. The year 1965 marked the advent of one inch thicker boards using iron trucks and rubber wheels.

The sporting activity is gaining wide popularity with people from the Western world and presently the boards can be found in various designs. You can choose high jump designs, long jump designs, free style, and downhill designs. Skateboarding reduced during the two decades of 1980s and 1990s; however, since the beginning of the 1990 decade, these have regained popularity.

Presently, this sport is ranked at the number sixth position in the United States of America. Moreover, these are expected to continue growing in popularity especially among the younger generation of the country. Some of the modern designs enable swift maneuvering for the users while others are beneficial to display various stunts and tricks.

During the history of skateboards, wheels were made using steel or composite clay. These were unsteady and beneficial only for single action. Moreover, these were used for carving and riding; however, modern styles are manufactured to enable users to perform some outstanding stunts that allow them to display their skills.
