Did it ever occur to you that there is a reason Personal Flotation Devices (PFDs) are often referred to as Life Jackets? They have been routinely called life jackets because they are intended to help preserve your life if you find yourself in need of assistance while boating, skiing, or any other water activity. You never know when you might need one, so the best tactic is to always be wearing yours.

inflatable life jacket should be the first thing you buy for yourself and your party when you are considering going canoeing, paddling, riding the rapids or in general being out on the water. Did you know that there are numerous people that die every year because they failed to wear a life vest. Even the most experienced are exhausted quickly when they are faced with having to fight to stay alive in cold water, against strong currents and in enormous waves. Even worse than that is the fact that injuries do happen even to the strongest of swimmers, and that means that without a PFD you are at risk from drowning.

It is never a good idea when considering getting out on the water to prove that you are equal to whatever the water may bring your way, wearing inflatable jackets evens up the score. Are you aware that the only life jackets that are allow to be for sale in the United States are those that are approved the the U.S. Coast Guard? That means that the United States is serious about helping to save folks lives when they are intent on spending lots of time on U.S. waters.

The thing that you have to remember though, when purchasing your PFD is to check to see what it has been approved for since all flotation devices are not created equally. Some devices are designed for a more professional use while others are for private wearers. Then there are those that are designed for capturing your money.

Choosing a form-fitting vest with foam panels should be top priority for those looking for these devices. You can see examples of this type of device by looking at catalogs of water activity equipment. The important thing is not the size of the panel but instead whether the vest fits well. Since you will likely be wearing your inflatable life jacket for a lengthy period of time, you will want to make sure it is comfortable. This can best be accomplished by trying them on before buying.

Your PFD should be adjustable to whatever it is that you will be wearing. You have to be sure that when you wear yours you will be able to float on your back with your lets extended. This is a critical point if the time should occur when you are in the water for a long time.

When it is time for you to enjoy some fun on the water as you go kayaking, canoeing or skiing, it is critical that you put on your PFD first. Your life may depend on it.
