Main Things To Consider Regarding MK 262 Mod 1 Ammo

By Rebekah Alford

It can take twenty or thirty years before a military piece of equipment becomes available to the general public and MK 262 Mod 1 is not an exception. Being meant originally for military use, the rounds are good for M16 platforms. A product that is almost like an original can be found for sale in boxes and it has reliable performance and accuracy. NATO used the rounds and they can be the best thing when a battle pack is involved.

Over time, the M16 platform has been modified and was made with 18 inch barrels. Both, the name and the configuration of the rifle were modified. Mod 0 was introduced in 2002, but only with one cannelure and it was transformed into Mod 1 in 2003. The temperature sensitivity became better in 2005. Using OTM (open-tipped match) as type of projectile, the expanding process is made differently than normal. In many cases the hollow cavity is meant for expansion, but for the current model, the accuracy is improved due to the stabilization of the projectile in flight.

When the projectile gets in a soft tissue, the heavier base causes it to yaw, or tumble. The hollow nose cone and the fragments from the cannelure can break off. The fragmentation can create a fast energy transfer and generate considerable wounding effects. The first products that appeared on the market were actually released in the form of cosmetic blemishes and sold in bulk.

The imperfections that some cartridges had were not visible with the naked eye. Small differences can be noticed regarding accuracy, terminal performance and wind drift, at long ranges. In ideal circumstances, a projectile is able to penetrate fifteen to twenty inches into soft tissue.

The fragmentation effect can be determined by velocity and the barrel length. In some cases, the projectile has proven not to be very effective for incapacitating the target, due to low probability of fragmentation. MK 262 is manufactured by Black Hills Ammunition and was designed initially for SPR, which means Special Purpose Rifle. The bullet used is a 77 grain Sierra Match-King. At long ranges, the bullets better than the ordinary M855.

Different sources can confirm that the bullet can kill a person from a distance of seven hundred meters. Severe injury in soft tissues was seen first at a three hundred meters distance, as ballistic tests can confirm. Many Special Force operators have a preference for the projectile, as it is very accurate, has range power and stopping power and causes severe wounds.

A barrel of twenty inches can provide a muzzle velocity of 2750. People can get the product in the form of boxes, each filled with fifty rounds. The product is quite difficult to find and the price is usually one dollar per round.

The M16 platforms can use MK 262 Mod 1 ammo as a great solution. The rounds are much improved in comparison to the regular M855 and this can be seen best at long range. People can have many advantages if they acquire the rounds, such as stopping power, range power, accuracy, capacity and performance.
