Wilderness Survival Training Is Exciting And Necessary

By Gloria Gardner

Very few people will find themselves in the middle of the woods without basic equipment or shelter. On the other hand, everyone should understand at least the basics of wilderness survival training. It really is the difference between life and death in the unlikely event. It also instills new skills and perspectives that might allow the student to approach everyday life more effectively.

Some people live in the country or otherwise frequently venture into the woods. These are adventurers who need to know because it is apart of their lives. They might already know a thing or two, but it is working with real professionals that will take their skill to the next level.

There are plenty people who know how to camp. An expert has seen a lot of things and has gone through extensive training. Some are former military officers or even special operations. They know the real secrets and can pull themselves through the mud.

Surviving is different from camping. It requires discipline and focus. There is little room for mistakes or playing around. A bad decision will waste resources or result in serious injury. Eating food when water is limited will quickly lead to dehydration, as just one simple example.

Real knowledge is based on science such as ecology and human physiology. It is also just going out and doing it. Important techniques are easy in theory but actually very difficult to do. Perhaps just as important is proper physique. Conditioning is the greatest skill of all.

Wilderness Survival Training does not occur on a college campus. The real educator is the great expanse of nothing and everything all around you. This classroom is a vigorous trek through rough country and you must pull down and dig up your living. This is not boot camp but it can be just as intense. It is designed to test you and take you to the advanced limit.
