Why I May Need a Commuter Bike

By Rob Sutter

It's amazing what leaving an old job can do for you. Not only is there a change of scenery present but the fact that you expand your horizons can only benefit your future. With that said, though, a new job can also make you see that perhaps investing in different tools will be in your best interest. Now that I am not as physically active as I used to be, in order to keep my body in the best shape imaginable, it might be high time to invest in a commuter bike.

I strongly think that a commuter bike's primary usage in that of travel from place to place. Yes, there are many bikes that are used mainly for more unsteady or rougher terrain but others are utilized exclusively for travel; bikes for commuting fit into the latter. The traveling part of these bikes is imperative, of course, but I also think that there's a feeling of brotherhood that comes from it. Linus, along with other biking authorities, will highlight the fact that many cities are littered with cyclists, since that form of travel may be easier to utilize in cities packed to the brim with cars, taxis, and buses.

I feel like a commuter bike would suit me the best because it feels like I'm always headed somewhere. I rarely get a chance to dive into my own hobbies since I'm almost always on the move, so if I'm doing that, what's the point in using my car if I can get in shape in another way? I used to love biking when I was younger but the fact that my old bicycle was stolen from my house one night soured me to the idea just a bit. Maybe it's high time that I look past that and try to get back in the game.

It's definitely going to be hard for me to keep in shape with my new job. At my old job, I was performing laborious tasks that kept me on my feet and moving. As much as I may have disagreed with some of the aspects of the job, I couldn't help but feel the burn. With the new job that I have, a sacrifice had to be made and this is why I feel like biking would be best for me. It gives me a chance to exercise without having to invest much in the way of a gym. For someone who simply wants to stay fit, this may be the ideal situation for me.

Commuter biking has two main incentives to speak of: not only is it a means of moving between areas but it serves as a way to keep one's body fit. Those who often put biking to use as a way of travel will probably see it as just that: a way of travel. However, the physical incentives that come from it cannot be ignored. When a strong session of biking is finished after a number of hours, the sense of accomplishment can be just as strong as the heated feeling in one's legs.
