It seems like an influx of kart racing video games has spurred over the past year or so. Ever since "Mario Kart" had taken off, others wanted a piece of the pie such as Sony's "ModNation Racers" and even Sonic the Hedgehog has taken to it despite being faster than any automobile one can think of. What I haven't seen are bikes, which is a shame because I feel like those can be far more versatile than any small kart on a track. Let's see if a city bike line can find its way into gaming.
When inspecting kart games, I'm sure that you see a majority of them utilize characters that can be recognized. It doesn't matter if it's Mario or Sonic because more likely than not, people will take to these games because of the name recognition behind them; it doesn't matter how good it plays to some people. However, quality should be something to take into account. If I were in charge of such a game, perhaps implementing all-star arcade characters would be interesting.
I think that if you had to name one noteworthy character above all others in gaming, aside from Mario, it'd have to be Pac-Man. I am sure that most would visualize this character as round and featureless apart from a mouth but the yellow man has developed since his days at the arcade, sporting a smiley face along with arms and legs to support his rotund figure. It'd be easy for me to visualize him riding a bike based on that but who would be those racing against him?
There are quite a few characters from arcade games who I believe could ride alongside Pac-Man upon a city bike towards the goal. These bikes, marketed by companies the likes of Linus Bike, would be able to make such a hectic race possible. What about implementing Dig Dug, the character from the game of the same name, onto the track and through the action? I believe the spaceship from "Galaga" could make an intriguing unlockable, thereby illustrating the possibilities that developers could take.
This doesn't even encompass all of the other possible games that could be incorporated here as well. What about "Tower of Druaga" or "Xevious" making their own appearances within this racing game of sorts? Like I said before, such possibilities are endless and when it comes to gaming, I don't think there should be a limit. It's an image that someone has brought into mind and the zanier that it is in terms of racing games where many people participate, the better that it will be in the long run.
