Facts on Duck Hunting

By Jane Claire

The sport has been one of the most common hunting activities and is more of a social event rather than a hunt. Moreover, it embodies an entire series of traditional rules that some aren't even aware of. It follows dress codes as well as employs duck hunting animals such as canines. Disregarding any point of view, there is a lot to be learned on the sport.

In the past, duck hunting was illegalized for the public, however, today; duck hunting is an official sport which can be seen mostly on first world countries. Studies also show that duck hunting be traced back early as the ice age. In Europe, the caves were found to display drawings that imply the early inhabitants to hunt geese and ducks. This is also the case in Egypt, where the tombs were found to display drawings of a person hunting the birds in a body of water. It was also believed to be present in America as suggested by Peruvian crafts.

The sport of duck hunting is mainly renowned in North America, where you can find the biggest population of ducks. Most of the animals migrate using the Mississippi river as there landmark. Arkansas is a primary hotspot for this sport while Stuttgart is referred to as the duck hunting capital of the world. Duck hunting got its popularity due to its nature of being simple. The equipment used in this sport is uncomplicated enough, from simple decoy ducks in the water, a shotgun and a duck signal and the hunt begins. The usual spots for this kind of sport is in any body of water such as rivers and lakes where you can find lots of ducks

It has been attested by a lot of waterfowl conservationists that duck hunting isn't doing any good for the environment and the species. In addition, wetlands and other habitats where the ducks live are continuously being reduced due to the sport. This is why organizations such as Duck Unlimited give attention to this issue and produces ways on how to protect the ducks while still being able to let hunters continue with their hobby. They control and observe the hunts so as to create a reasonable hunt that spares the lives of more ducks. However, even though this idea may be reasonable enough to strike attention to hunters, some still ignore it and prefer to continue on to wreck the habitat of the ducks. This issue led duck hunting to be disputed by both parties, the hunters versus the conservationists such as the Duck Unlimited.

Having said this, a few of the hunters still become ignorant on conserving the duck's environment and instead destroy the homes and the ducks which aren't supposed to be hunted. At present, duck hunts are still a sport criticized due to this idea. Until hunters realize the concepts that organizations like Ducks Unlimited are trying to point out as well as cooperating with them, the sport of duck hunting may be at risk for extinction.
