Fun And Adventure Can Be Found At Florida Shipwrecks

By Eleanor Thompson

Over many hundreds of years people have explored Florida and sometimes settled there. Great Aztec riches were often transported from Spain to Europe and succumbing to various hazards were wrecked along the coastlines of Florida. Shallow shores, pirates and coastal reefs were some of the hazards that left Florida shipwrecks to be found and explored later.

Divers have retrieved many of the treasures from these wrecks over the years. However, some wrecks have not been found yet and so the search for these and their treasures continues. Many tourists and wreck enthusiasts find these sites to be great sources of enjoyment.

Many articles and books have been written about them. There are a variety of maps showing their whereabouts. And learning about the history behind these fascinating wrecks can be very enjoyable.

The Urca de Lima, The City of Hawkins-ville and The San Pedro wrecks are among the many wrecks listed on maps detailing wreck sites to visit. Each has a fascinating story to learn about. And many great photographs are available to look at both on the internet and other places to inspire you enough to visit these sites in person.

During your visits there will often be gift shops with memorabilia to take away to remind you of the great time you have had there. Your own photographs and memories will also add to it all. And postcards are usually easily found for your family and friends.

Florida shipwrecks maps can also be found on the internet, and some are interactive giving information on each individual site. Many dive shops will have laminated underwater field guides for the wrecks and there are brochures available as well. There are some great itineraries available for a great diving vacation, and seeing the wreck sites available, you just need to find which one you would like to visit first.
