Hunting And Fishing Lodges Are Making Good Business These Days

By Carole Ashley

The thought of it is sportsman's heaven - imagine yourself in front of an old-fashioned stone fireplace, with the fire giving you warmth as you curl up on the classic, overstuffed couch and read a Jack London classic. And isn't it a wonderful feeling as well to smell that wood sap and look at those beautiful landscapes as you stand by the window. No bright lights, no traffic, no bosses, no computers, no deadlines to catch up on. Your "boss", if you could call it that is a chirping bird outside your window, waking you up for another great day of outdoor life.

This is a day in the life of a vacationer at any one of the many hunting and fishing lodges of America, and it's little wonder why they're so popular.

Hunting and fishing lodges were once the sole indulgence of rich industrialists who through their ventures or capital could afford to have a small getaway tucked into some remote corner of wilderness, far from the hustle and bustle of the city, and pursue their manly inclinations.

The coming of age of the richest generation ever and the unprecedented accessibility via logging roads and other ventures to the great outdoors has now made it possible for almost anybody to enjoy their own hunting or fishing lodge in their version of paradise. Just about anybody can access these lodges, may they be by the lakeside or mountainside, and take advantage of the opportunity to get away from it all.

The lodge has become wildly popular because more and more people are gaining an interest in nature. People can come into closer communion with the forest and yet still retain a measure of comfort within the walls of their small lodge. Everything tends to be different in this sort of environment, and owners of lodges will often find they are much better acquainted with their fellow nature lovers with lodges or farms nearby than they are with the people in their own neighborhoods back home. Something about leaving the city seems to trigger a response within the soul that causes us to lose our fears and embrace the unfamiliar.

But probably the best thing about lodges is the fact that even if you're not a sportsperson (not to be confused with athlete), you can relate to the environment. You may want to take this opportunity to go fishing or hunting if this is your first time, and if outdoor sports are your thing, then you certainly will enjoy yourself. But for some, the lodge will remain purely a place to sit down, relax, and finish the book that you have been trying to read for months, away from the distractions of everyday life.
