Essential Ski Wear For Your Trip

By Oliver Fish

As with any holiday, booking a ski holiday can be very exciting - you will be counting down the days from the moment you book to the moment you go. However, there is work to be done in the meantime, namely buying the ski wear required for you to face the extreme cold you will find when you get there!

The cold cannot be described if you have never experienced it. Of course you will get used to it to a point, but it is still very extreme and the recent cold and snowy winters will still have done nothing to prepare you for what you will encounter. It is completely essential that you get the correct ski clothing BEFORE you go.

A ski jacket is a very important start. It will be much warmer than your current winter coat and will keep the main part of your body warm. Dare2b, Columbia and Helly Hansen are some of the leading manufacturers of ski jackets and these can be found all over the high street and the Internet.

Salopettes, or ski pants, are another important purchase before you go. Even the most experienced of ski veterans find themselves on the floor, and you don't want to be doing this in jeans or joggers onto the extremely cold snow! Ski pants are waterproof, meaning that when you do fall over you don't have to spend the rest of the day shivering because your trousers are covered in icy water!

Making sure you wear the right footwear is pretty important too - just think what happens to your normal shoes when you get caught out in the snow...they leak! Well snow boots are waterproof and do not, meaning your feet should stay dry all day. It would be disastrous and possibly quite dangerous to have wet feet in cold that extreme. Snow boots also make it easier to actually walk through the snow, as that can become quite difficult when there is nothing but snow!

It isn't just comfort that is important, safety is heavily tied into that. Though you may be able to hire safety equipment such as goggles and helmets, it may give you more peace of mind to buy your own. You need a helmet for obvious reasons, and the goggles protect your eyes from the snow as you hurtle down at high speeds.
