CommRow, described as Reno's first 'Urban Adventure Destination', is set to open on 1st October 2011. The Nevada site is home to the world's tallest climbing wall, which has been constructed to international competition specifications. It is situated on the external facade of the16-story building, towering 164 feet over the Reno arch. There are beginner, intermediate and advanced climbs on the wall.
Inside the venue, visitors will find a bouldering centre, slacklining facilities, and plenty of event space. The site is also home to numerous food outlets and bars, located on what is being called The Row. All kinds of cuisine will be available, as well as a wide selection of beer, wine and cocktails as well as, wait for it, more than 100 varieties of tequila (best enjoyed after a climb!) The second floor overlooks the bouldering centre, so there's plenty to keep you entertained whilst you're enjoying a snack or beverage.
There will also be lots going on at night, with 2 entertainment venues dubbed Cargo and Centric set to host a variety of events including appearances from local artists and performances from more famous acts on national tours.
A range of other attractions are due to open in 2012. These include the HANG Hotel, which will allow visitors to bring their pets, as well as an outdoor 'Adventure Deck' where BMX and skate parks will feature alongside outdoor bouldering and other urban/adventure activities.
The developers responsible for CommRow hope to help raise the profile of Reno, creating something locals can be proud of but also attracting visitors from outside the city. The 'Comm' in the name represents community, emphasising a commitment to regenerating the area of downtown Reno.
The Excalibur, at the Bjoeks Climb Centre in Groningen, Holland, previously held the title of the world's tallest climbing wall, standing 121ft tall with a 36ft overhang.
