Coarse Fishing Tackle Review: The Team Daiwa X 2508 Reel

By Joe Fins

What type of coarse angler are you? Do you stay with your tried-and-true coarse fishing tackle or are you constantly tinkering with your set-up in an effort to improve it? Well, count me in the ranks of the tinkerers! In fact, I enjoy configuring and reconfiguring my gear almost as much as I relish using it. Since I stalk a number of fish species, I need to be well prepared and ready to adapt at a moment’s notice. For that reason, you’ll find a good variety of gear in my tackle box. I also like my rods and reels to be as reliable as possible. So, I tend to stay with the proven brands and manufacturers. One such manufacturer is Daiwa. Here’s a brief review of my favourite Daiwa reel, the Team Daiwa X 2508 model.

Coarse Fishing Tackle: Major Components of the Team Daiwa X 2508 Reel

The regular retail price of this fishing reel is £270.00; however, you can likely find it on the Net on sale for around £195.00, saving you £75.00. This X 2508 is designed with a pushbutton type spool. It also has an enhanced front drag as well as a high-impact line clip. This reel also has an exactly machined spool and the drag is waterproof. The reel has got 4 CRBB (corrosion resistant ball bearings) and 3 BB (standard ball bearings). This X 2508 is fixed with the Daiwa well sought-after DigiGear, plus it has got pioneering locomotive winding. It is a well-constructed item of coarse fishing tackle which gives extremely smooth casting and retrieves. Daiwa hasn’t left out anything. Even its handle was reconstructed with contoured grips made from EVA, which is high density.

Coarse Fishing Tackle: Other Facts Pertaining to the X 2508 Reel

You can customise the reel with either a single or double handle. It has a lifetime bail spring, and an ABS spool. ABS, by the way, is a plastic that’s 30 times more durable than other types. It holds it shape quite well when moulded, is highly resistant to chemicals and is not affected by temperature. A spare spool is furnished as well. The X 2508 has Daiwa’s popular Twist Buster II feature, along with infinite anti-reverse. The reel will hold 150m of 8lb test line and has a gear ratio of 4.7:1. It weighs 9.9oz.

Coarse Fishing Tackle: Concluding Statement on the Daiwa X 2508 Reel

Once, I had a small problem with the reel, and I contacted Daiwa. I conversed with an accommodating, congenial, and well-informed technician that worked diligently to resolve my problem. When I was done, I had a really hopeful feeling about this company having a deep loyalty to taking care of their customer’s problems, whether they are small ones or big ones. This technician told me that Daiwa keeps outdated parts for reels they no longer manufacturer for around 5 years; what this means is that when my X 2508 gets older, I can still buy parts from them and get service for years.

Daiwa items such as this X 2508 fishing reel give inexpensive and steadfast coarse fishing tackle techniques.
