Where can I store my bike?

By Henry Dover

Thinking about how and where to store your bike is a harder decision that it may first appear. You need to look at the resources you have at your disposal as well as a few other factors you will need to take into account, such as how secure it is, the storage capacity and exactly where your bike will fit within the allotted space. These are just a few of the points you should consider. A shed, or wall and ceiling mounting are the more commonly known methods of bike storage.

Each of these methods have certain benefits but there may only be one which is suitable for your requirements. If you have no outdoor space, for example, you won't need a storage shed but if you find yourself in the position of having all three options at your disposal then you need to look at the pros and cons of each one.

Wall mounted storage. This is a great method of storage if you have a garage. Your car will be able to be fitted underneath with the bike being able to be mounted some high enough from the floor. It takes up no floor space at all but there is one disadvantage in that it has to be lifted up on to the bike stand. With Cycloc wall mounts, you can store your bike at home or in the office. And your colleagues are unlikely to mind as the design is visually stunning.

Ceiling mounted storage. This also offers the main advantage as that of a wall mounted storage with no space taken on the floor. But these also come with winch type system. If you do struggle with listing your bike, this is a nice solution. All you need to do is attach a hook on to the handlebars and a further one below the saddle. The main problem is the price as it is far more expensive than a standards wall mount, two to three times, in fact.

Bike storage shed. If you have outdoor space available, this could be the method which suits you the most as you will be able to protect it from poor weather conditions and you will have the further benefit of storing further items, which, of course, can include cycling accessories. It isn't affordable for everyone, however, especially wooden sheds as they have an annual maintenance fee attached.
