The Felt B12: A brief overview

By Angela Walters

The Felt B12 is one of Felt's newest bikes in the TT/TRI series, and it has been designed with one thing in mind: speed. The great thing about the B12 is that it manages to retain the features that allow the range to achieve such quick times while keeping it at a low cost of 2,700. So what makes the Felt B12 so good?

In fact, special Computational Fluid Dynamic software and comprehensive wind tunnel testing was used to ensure that as well as being a technologically advanced bike it was incredibly aerodynamic. Of course you wouldn't necessarily know this by looking at the Felt B12 (even though it looks incredibly sleek) but then again, there are a lot of things you can't see on the Felt B12.

Other methods used by Felt to create speedy bikes seem so obvious, and yet Felt executes them with such precision and quality that other bikes are put to shame. The B12's internal cable routing for example is flawless and creates the illusion of a bike that doesn't even use cables. The illusion has uses beyond aesthetic appeal however, as the loss of external cables means that the bike is as streamlined as possible.

The B12 frame ranges in size from 48cm-60cm, but whichever bike you choose you can be assured that the weight will be minimal (the 56cm frame weighs 8.82kg) making it much quicker on the road. The frame manages to be so light yet solid because it is made from a unique carbon fibre blend. Felt is obviously proud of the frame as it also sells it separately.

Felt does produce bikes that are more technologically advanced than the B12, but these bikes, amongst the very best in the world, approach the 10,000 mark. If you're looking for a bike that maintains the best features of Felt's top-shelf bikes with a price tag that will spare your blushes, the B12 at 2,700 is the perfect option.
