How Commuter Bikes Can Save Lives

By Rob Sutter

When my mind drifts to commuter bikes, I don't think I could ever envision anything potentially dangerous arising. Biking, in my mind, should be a hobby and using it to travel from place to place shouldn't pose any risk. For one person, they seemed to do the opposite and they worked to turn her life around. She's on the right direction and it's surprisingly positive to see just how much of an impact that they can have.

The Chicago Tribune reported on a story centered around a woman named Cynthia Bell. Essentially, she is doing her part now in order to keep cyclists safe upon their commuter bikes. Biking authorities such as Linus have taken to this story and have commented on it as well. However, Bell's life hasn't always been perfect and she found herself hanging around with the wrong crowd early on in her life. It's just fortunate she was able to turn things around in order to help a younger generation.

It's surprising that Bell was able to make the transition into avid biker so well because even she would admit that she wasn't the most willing when it came to cycling. In fact, she considered herself sedentary and reading a road map was the furthest thing from her mind. She lived a sheltered due to being within an overprotective family but with drugs and crime abound, how could one blame Bell's mother? This very person would soon become an avid biker, even traveling to and from work on a bicycle.

Getting caught up in commuter biking must have helped to show her the benefits that it could have. Once such a bike is utilized, one can see physical changes start to form. After all, this is technically a form of exercise that can be done across long distances and if it is, there is not telling how many calories can be turned. In addition, being able to get to work faster must be a perk for Bell since packed streets would only impede her progress otherwise.

For just about anyone who finds themselves moving around from place to place with every passing day, a commuter bike is as valuable a tool as one could expect. A lot of people believe that they should get more exercise during the week. For those folks, I don't believe there's a better way to gain that than with this method. Bell was able to utilize it for more than just that and it should invigorate others to emulate her actions.
